Jewellery Care Guide
Fine jewellery lasts for generations with a little care.
- Remove jewellery before bathing, swimming, exercising or sleeping.
- Apply perfume, lotion and hairspray before putting jewellery on.
- Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after each wear.
- Store each piece separately in a soft pouch or lined box, away from moisture.
- Avoid harsh chemicals and ultrasonic cleaning for stone-set, plated or oxidised pieces.
Gold and platinum
Soak briefly in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap, brush gently with a soft brush, rinse and pat dry.
Silver
Silver naturally darkens with air. Wipe with a silver polishing cloth and store in an airtight pouch. Do not polish oxidised silver, which is darkened on purpose.
Stones and pearls
Pearls and soft stones scratch easily: put them on last, take them off first, and wipe with a damp cloth only.
Plated and fashion jewellery
Keep away from water, perfume and sweat to preserve the plating, and store in the box it came in.
